What is Latisse?
Latisse is the first and only medical product approved by Health Canada to promote the growth of thicker, longer, fuller lashes. It is also commonly used to thicken the eyebrows.
Latisse is available only by prescription at select doctors' offices in Toronto. To obtain a prescription for this drug, one of our dermatologists will need to assess you to ensure that you are a good candidate for treatment with Latisse.
How Does Latisse Work?
Latisse contains the active ingredient bimatoprost. Although the exact mechanism of action of bimatoprost is unknown, it seems to prolong the growth phase of eyelashes to result in longer, thicker lashes.
Most patients notice that their eyelashes get thicker, longer and darker within a matter of weeks. Maximum effect is seen at 16 weeks. To maintain your results, please continue to apply Latisse about twice a week.
Our Comprehensive Approach to Latisse
Prior to prescribing Latisse, one of our dermatologists will discuss the benefits and potential risks associated with its use. Once you are determined to be a good candidate for treatment with Latisse, you can purchase this product from our reception and be on your way to thicker, fuller lashes.
Apply Latisse once daily (preferably at night before you go to bed) to the base of the upper lashes after cleansing. The product shouldn't be applied to the lower lashes. Many patients begin to notice longer lashes within 6-8 weeks, and the full effect is seen with 16 weeks of daily use.
Latisse may not be suitable for patients who are allergic or hypersensitive to any ingredient in its formulation (benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, dibasic, citric acid, purified water and sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid).
It's important to know that side effects of Latisse may include temporary darkening of the eyelid skin, irritation, dryness, redness and itchiness. Bimatoprost has been reported to cause permanent darkening of the iris when used directly in the eye for treatment of glaucoma. There is a very small risk of this occurring with application of Latisse to the lashline.
According to clinical trials, a significant improvement in length, fullness and darkness is seen in 78% of participants. After the 16-week mark, results may be maintained with twice weekly application.
Within weeks, you'll have the longer, darker and more lush eyelashes that you've been wanting.
