What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is a highly purified protein isolated from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Compass Dermatology’s expert dermatologists inject it directly into specific facial muscles, after which neuromodulators cleave a protein on nerve endings, preventing the release of the chemical which signals muscles to contract. The effect of Botox injections peaks at two weeks and then gradually wears off as the nerve endings regenerate the cleaved protein.
At Compass Dermatology, all Botox injections are performed by our experienced, board-certified dermatologists. Prior to your treatment, Dr. Cook or Dr. Carroll will carefully assess your facial anatomy and movement to determine the correct dosage and injection locations.
You will see the full effect of your Botox treatment by the end of week 2. Most people require treatment every 3 to 4 months.
Our Comprehensive Approach to Neuromodulator Injections
Patients new to Compass Dermatology will meet with one of our board certified dermatologists for an initial consultation and skin assessment to determine the optimal approach to achieving your aesthetic goals by treating lines and wrinkles.
Once the consultation is complete and neuromodulators are deemed appropriate for you, your cosmetic treatment will begin. A botox injection is performed with a tiny needle and may cause minimal discomfort. Your appointment at Compass Dermatology’s clinic will take about 30 minutes and no recovery time is needed. Side effects may include bruising and there is a very low risk of mild drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid which resolves over several weeks.
Botox FAQ
When should I begin neuromodulator treatments?
Compass Dermatology recommends beginning regular Botox treatments once facial lines are visible at rest. Beginning early will help to delay the formation of deep wrinkles due to the movement of facial muscles.
